“I had the idea for Misfitters on the way home from a ballet class on the Upper West Side. After 15 years of dancing and working with big name dance retailers, I noticed everywhere I went that dancers were struggling with their pointe shoes, and it was hindering their artistic ability. Since New York has a plethora of freelancers and access to some of the worlds most beloved pointe shoe brands, I thought there had to be a way to bring the pointe shoe room to those who were responsible for their own shoes. Working as a fitter for both Bloch and Capezio, and managing the store I grew up shopping in, I had all the tools to make this dream real. Thus came Misfitters.” —Casey Noble
Becoming a misfit
Every dancer has a special bond with their pointe shoes, so when we start running into problems, the vast amount of information available can be overwhelming. If you find yourself wondering where you should start, look no further. This is how we’ve simplified the process for you.

THE CONSULT
Let’s start with a detailed check in. Most professionals have at least a few pairs of their current style pointe shoe. An initial consultation is the perfect opportunity to take stock of any pain, functional concerns, aesthetic dislikes, and general issues you may be facing with your latest shoes. This is also the time for us to discuss your history of injuries and past pointe shoe experiences.
GOAL: Troubleshoot problems with your current pointe shoes, and collect personal history to establish a solid starting point.
WHAT YOU NEED: Just your pointe shoes and a smile! We will take care of the rest.

THE FITTING
This is where the magic happens! Once the initial consultation is complete, we will decide our best course of action to begin correcting your Misfit. We will schedule a fitting with the brand that has the most available options to suit your needs, based on the fitter’s recommendations. We will attend this fitting with you to ensure that you walk away with the best option to begin your safe transition—followed by a detailed conversation that will cover client responsibilities and preferred break in methods.
GOAL: Help determine the best fit to begin the transition process, and establish the best personalized break in method.
WHAT YOU NEED: Please bring your current pointe shoes as a reference for the fitters. Worn shoes provide valuable information for any future fittings!
Note* Most dancers end up with one or two pairs of a “transition” shoe—our bodies are constantly changing, so a transitional style is often needed to allow your feet to readjust to a more proper fitting shoe. Once adjusted, we can begin to refine more specific needs and aesthetic preferences, and move onto the next best fit.
